Book Review ~ #1

Call me a Book Worm if you want to but I. LOVE. TO. READ! I love the fact that you can get lost and be taken to a completely different world all with a page full of words. In the past 3 months I have read 5 really great books. Here they are along with what I thought about them...

1). The Overnight Socialite by Bridie Clark - This book was a cute book. It is about a Midwest girl who is trying to make it as a fashion designer in NYC. After having a bout of bad luck she is proposed with an offer that she cannot refuse. A handsome New Yorker makes it his mission to transform her into a socialite and if he can have her pass as a Socialite among other Socialites he not only wins a bet but it will launch his career. But can he go through with it? Does he start seeing her in a different light & start to fall in love? This is what kept me wanting more.

2). Dear John by Nicholas Sparks - This is one of my favorite love stories of all times. I finished this book in 2 1/2 days and I also cried several times while reading this book. This is a story about true love. A bad boy turned good falls in love with a do good college girl in 2 weeks. This book is not only about the power of love but about a father son relationship that made me cry more than the actual love story. The recently released movie does not do this book justice. I cannot give too much about the story in this novel because this is a MUST READ!

3). Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom - This book really made me think about life and God. This is a true story about the author, Mitch Albom, having a personal relationship with his Rabi. What would you do if a man of faith asked you to give a eulogy at his funeral? For Albom it turned into an 8 year experience about life lessons and a search for God and he shares it with us in this beautiful book.

4). Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger - Yes, the same author that brought us The Devil Wears Prada brought us her third novel, Chasing Harry Winston. This novel is about 3 best friends living the city life in New York who find themselves quickly approaching 30 and make a year long pact. While one friend has just been dumped and decides she is going on a world wide search of one night stands. Another friend has the prefect boyfriend and job, but once her perfect boyfriend asks her to spend the rest of her life with him she quickly starts to re-assess her life. Finally the last friend is a beautiful knock out Brazilian who just can't get enough of men but is challenged and makes it a quest to be engaged in 1 year. This novel is filled with laughs and keeps you wondering with the turn of every page what will happen next?

5). The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks - Another GREAT tear jerker by Mr. Sparks! While this novel wasn't up there with The Notebook & Dear John it was a beautiful story about a teenage girl who has to spend the summer with her dad and really wants nothing to do with him. While over the course of the novel we find that she falls in love with boy she never thought would be her type and we get more in depth with why she has so much anger towards her dad and how she quickly starts to see her dad in a different light. I loved how Mr. Sparks depicted a First love with a summer romance and how a father/daughters relationship gets mended over time. I can't wait to see this movie.

How about you Sucias...have you read any good books or any of these books lately? Which ones are or have been your favorites? Let me know, you might see them on my next Book Review. And If you haven't started to read, get your butt in gear and make some time. Books are prefect for the summer while your laying out by the pool or even at the beach.

Till next week Sucias!

You know it was a good night when...

...You wake up with only your thong on, inside out, the crotch of your thong is where your hip is and the hip part is where your crotch is. Or, you know it was a good night when you wake up so sore you need some Ibuprofen and an ice pack for your little flower. Or, my favorite, you know it was a good night when you wake up next to "Soul Man". Needless to say queridas, these have all been true for this Sucia. Every now and then I wake up, usually with a hangover, and send a text message with one of these scenarios to my bestie over in Louisiana. It never fails...we always get a good laugh from it. Now, I know there are some Sucias out there who know exactly what I'm talking about. And, I know as you are reading this you are all smiling from ear to ear & having flashbacks of your "You know it was a good night when...". So here is to all my Sucias, to all the Good Times & to all the "You know it was a good night when..."! Till next week Sucias! XOXO Queenie

The Happiest place, just got Happier...

Finally...CAPTAIN EO is BACK! I never had the chance to see this when it was at Disneyland from '86-'96 and now it's back and I saw it for the first time ever on Saturday.

Captain EO is a small 3D film brought to us by the GREAT Francis Ford Coppola and the GREAT George Lucas, staring superstar Michael Jackson. At first I thought it was almost like a Star Wars musical meets The Muppets. But I had to see it. I have always had this unexplainable love for Michael Jackson. I love his music, I love the way he would groove like no other human being on this planet, he was plain genius at what he did. And so when the dancing and singing began I could not help but to be mesmerized and remember why I fell in love with Michael Jackson in the first place. If you have never experienced Captain EO make sure to catch it next time your at Disneyland. You will be glad that you did. Till next week Sucias! XOXO Queenie

New address...New NAME...

Well...I know I just changed my web address & now my Blog name. I just felt like I really wasn't being true to myself. While I loved "The Dirty Girls Social Blog" name it really didn't feel like it was mine, I kind of just took the idea & ran with it. And since I only have a tiny following (thank you ladies) I feel that if I was going to make any changes it should be now. Still trying to get used to this & I'm really loving it so far & super excited on building my blog. So thanks again Sucias and keep coming back for more!!!!! XOXO Queenie

Dulce of the Month...

Ok Sucias, I have a confession...
I AM OBSESSED with nail polish!!!!! My nails might not always be up to par, however, that does not stop me from craving & buying a new color of polish every now & then. I believe that a Sucia should indulge in a manicure at least once a month & if you can get a double whammy (a mani & a pedi) even better, plus the men LOVE it!
Therefore, I will be posting a new "Dulce of the Month" every month. Why "Dulce"...why not? Nail polish is addictive & sweet like candy. So for the month of March & in honor of St. Patty's Day I have found this amazing funky color that is absolutely luscious, Four Leaf Clover by China Glaze. It is a cool Kelly Green & doesn't look like all those other minty green polishes.

So go on queridas & treat yourselves to something nice!
Till next week Sucias!

And the Oscar goes to...

Well, if they had an Oscar for Best Dressed it would go to Penelope Cruz. Ok, so I know she didn't win an Oscar last night for her performance in Nine, but she did impress once again with a beautiful Donna Karan Couture gown. Miss Penelope Cruz is one of my favorite actresses of all time. I first fell in love with Penelope in her amazing performance in Vanilla Sky. She has appeared in numerous films such as: Jamon, Jamon, Blow, Volver & Vicky Cristina Barcelona(just to name a few). I believe she is the "Spanish" Audrey Hepburn of our time. She never fails to disappoint with her timeless, classic fashion & beauty, especially with that vintage Pierre Balmain ball gown at last years Oscars. So here is to you mi querida Penelope Cruz! Till next week Sucias! (actually I have my "Dulce of the Month" coming out this week so check back & check it out) XOXO Queenie

My First...

Hola Sucias! I'm sitting here in front of my lap top with a lovely glass of Chardonnay thinking "what the hell am I doing?". Well queridas this will be the first of many blogs that I will write on here. I will mostly be focusing about women, because I have too many "Ding Dongs" at home that just don't understand how cute a nail polish can be or how hot Cristiano Ronaldo is. This will be a weekly post (posting on Monday mornings to get you through your week) and it will be about anything and everything. Please feel free to send me your comments (the good, the bad & the ugly) also send me any ideas or subject you would like to see on here. So be sure to check back here on Monday & if you can't check The Dirty Girls Social Blog on Monday no worries you can always check it sometime through out the week! Till Monday Sucias! XOXO Queenie
